Google Maps Lead Generation Without an API Key

Every guide to pulling leads from Google Maps eventually says "first, create a Google Cloud project and enable billing". For a developer that is Tuesday. For a salesperson who just wants fifty plumbers in a spreadsheet, it is the end of the road.

Why Google wants an API key

The Places API is metered: Google charges per request beyond a free monthly allowance, so it needs a billing account to meter against. The key identifies your project, your quota and your card. It is a reasonable system that is entirely wrong for one-off prospecting.

The no-key route

Maps2Sheets holds the API relationship so you do not have to: we run the official Google Places API on our side and meter usage per user instead. You install the Sheets add-on or open the web dashboard, search, and get rows. No Cloud console, no card on file with Google, no quota dashboards.

What you can pull

Up to 100 free leads a day with name, address, phone, website, rating, reviews and category. Need a whole market instead of a daily trickle? A full scan counts every business first (see real counts like 883 electricians in Paris or 880 roofing contractors in Florida) and the complete export costs $1.49 to $4.49.

When you SHOULD get your own key

Honest answer: if you are building software that queries Maps data programmatically every day, get your own key and pay Google directly; Maps2Sheets even supports bring-your-own-key mode. For everyone else, the add-on route is faster by a week.

Start with a free scan, no sign-up needed.
